Motorjesus hail from Germany and are now releasing their seventh album. All good things come in sevens, as the saying goes. When I receive an album from a band called Motorjesus, my first thought is that this might be hard to enjoy. And that proves to be true – this is high-energy hard rock packed with testosterone and cliché-ridden melodies. It’s precisely those clichéd melodies I struggle with the most. They remind me a lot of what you often hear from more commercial metalcore bands. The riffs also feel a bit too worn-out for me to find much enjoyment in them.
But now that we’ve got the negatives out of the way – it’s really not all bad. Dan Swanö’s production is solid, and the cover art by Sebastian Jerke is both funny and tacky – in an entertaining way. I also appreciate the energy Motorjesus bring to the table. Still, over time the band becomes a bit too overwhelming, and the commercial vocal lines irritate me more than they please me.
Released June 13th, 2025 on Reaper Entertainment.
