Psykosis is a thrash metal band from Ireland. Formed in 2008, the band released their debut album Welcome to the Psyko Ward in 2016. Now, nine years later, comes the follow-up: Mind Games. In other words, things don’t move particularly fast with this group — except when it comes to the music, because their thrash is played at a blistering pace.
This time, they’ve delivered a well-produced album filled with classic thrash metal, in the style we’ve known since the mid-1980s. The band is definitely at their best instrumentally — these guys can really play. The guitar work, in particular, is rock solid. The vocals work well too, even if they’re fairly standard.
The songs themselves are also fairly standard. There are no big surprises here — just classic thrash, played the way the genre has been for over 40 years. In that sense, Mind Games is a rather predictable and unremarkable release. Still, Psykosis play well and have delivered a solid album, even if it doesn’t bring anything new to the table. And credit where it’s due: the cover art, by Marcelo Almeida, is excellent.
Released April 30th, 2025 independently.
