Warsenal are from Canada and have released two albums previously – “Barn Burner” from 2016 and “Feast Your Eyes” from 2019. We’re talking traditional thrash metal of the fast variety here. It’s not exactly rare for me to feel a bit second-hand embarrassed by a lot of thrash bands, and I do with the name Warsenal and meaningless titles like “Endless Beginnings”. Endless beginnings – what on earth is that supposed to mean? I doubt the band know themselves. “Mass Grave Mass”, “Flying Fortress”, and “Onward to Our Death” are some of the song titles, and the jokes practically write themselves. On the track “Feeding the Wildfire”, I picture some cheapskate tossing twigs onto a forest fire while laughing evilly, convinced he’s making it even worse.
But in Warsenal’s defence, they’re from Quebec, a French-speaking part of Canada. On the plus side, Warsenal have improved since last time. I have reviewed “Feast Your Eyes” when it came out and gave it a miserable score. So they’ve clearly been practising over the past seven years. Or maybe it’s because two out of three members are new? Either way, it’s better. But Warsenal still aren’t delivering top quality. This is too straightforward and boring. There are simply far too many bands playing virtually identical thrash metal – only better. Still, credit where it’s due for the slick cover art by Justin Cournoyer.
Release March 20th, 2026 on Massacre Records.
