A 64-year-old man has died following a violent incident at the Copenhell rock festival in Copenhagen. A man in his 20s has been arrested in connection with the case.
The incident occurred Friday at Refshaleøen, the site of the well-known rock andmetal festival. Copenhagen Police confirmed the man’s death on Saturday in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter). The victim’s next of kin have been notified.
The suspected assailant, described as being in his 20s, was taken into custody and appeared before a judge late Saturday afternoon. Around 7 p.m., police confirmed that the man had been remanded in custody for nine days.
Festival director Jeppe Nissen said in an email to Danish broadcaster TV 2 that Copenhell is cooperating fully with police.
“We are devastated and first and foremost send our thoughts to the victim’s family and loved ones. This is a police matter, and we are offering all available resources to support the investigation,” Nissen wrote.
Episodes like this are very rare at metal festivals – that usually are the safest places on earth.
