Mysticum at Inferno Metal Festival 2016
The Norwegian black metal band Mysticum have announced that they are calling it quits. The band will play one final concert at Samhain Festival in Antwerp on 4 April 2026, sharing the bill with bands such as Rotting Christ and Triumph of Death.
Mysticum are one of the early Norwegian black metal bands, with a history dating back to 1991 under the name Sewer Disgust. In 1993 they changed their name to Mysticum and released their first demo, Medusa’s Tears. Their debut album, In the Streams of Inferno, arrived in 1996, but fans had to wait until 2014 for the follow-up, Planet Satan. The band are regarded as one of the earliest acts within the industrial black metal subgenre.
Over the band’s 35-year history, they have played only a handful of concerts. They stopped performing live in 1996 before returning almost twenty years later, with their shows at Inferno Metal Festival in 2016 and Roadburn Festival in 2017 often cited as highlights.
It’s not unusual for artists to announce a final show and then return later for a reunion. But given how little activity there has been from Mysticum, this may be one of the rare cases where the band truly mean it—and are putting the project to rest for good.
On social media, the band write:
There will be no continuation beyond this.
Since 1991, Mysticum has stood uncompromising.
What was created remains.
All the best to all who walked with us.
NEVER STOP THE MADNESS
ALL MUST END
