The thrash metal band Aggression has a history dating all the way back to the mid-80s. In fact, the band started back in 1984 under the name Asylum before changing to Aggression in 1985. However, the Canadian band wasn’t the most active, and “The Full Treatment” from 1987 was the only album they managed to release before it all came to an end. Fast forward to 2004 when the band regrouped and released “Forgotten Skeleton.” But once again, things went quiet until “Fragmented Spirit Devils” in 2016. Since then, they have released albums in 2018, 2020, and in 2022. And with “Frozen Aggressors” in 2023, one could say that the band has picked up speed. The only original member is guitarist Denis “Sasquatch” Barthe, who also took over vocals in 2020. Like many other bands that didn’t make it big when they started in the 80s, Aggression isn’t exactly top-tier. However, they don’t sound too bad, and despite the name, the band is skilled at incorporating melodies when it fits. Barthe might not be the best vocalist, so it’s not surprising that the band has used other vocalists until recently. But all in all, he manages decently. On the other hand, he is skilled on the guitar, and “Frozen Aggressors” features a lot of great guitar playing. The album may not be the album of the year, but Aggression has still delivered a solid thrash metal record.
Released December 1st, 2023 on Massacre Records.
