American band Atomic Witch originally started out as Bulk & Skull in 2012. In 2016, they changed their name to the much cooler Atomic Witch. Since then, the band has released two EPs and one full-length album, and they’re now back with their second full-length.
Atomic Witch play a varied style of thrash metal. At times it’s brutal, drawing influences from death metal as well as heavy metal. They even throw in a few primal screams here and there. The band features two vocalists — guitarist King Dagon handles the wilder vocal parts, while Gorg the Impaler delivers the growls. This dual approach adds variety and gives the band a unique character.
But it’s the riffs I enjoy the most. Even though the album runs just under half an hour, Atomic Witch manage to pack in a massive amount of killer riffs in that short time. At times, it can feel a bit overwhelming, so it demands a bit from the listener. Still, it’s definitely worth checking out if you’re into progressive and technical thrash metal. I hear influences ranging from King Diamond to Voivod.
Release on July 25th, 2025 on Redefining Darkness Records.
