Battlecreek is a German thrash metal band celebrating its twentieth anniversary this year. The band has previously released two albums – “Wake Of The Plague” in 2011 and “Hate Injection” in 2015. The band’s newest album is called “Maze Of The Mind,” and it follows the tradition of thrash metal. Despite the fact that the band plays well and is skilled with their instruments, I have a major issue with Battlecreek; the vocals. The vocals are of the type where it sounds like shouting all the time. It’s painful to listen to, and I struggle to listen to “Maze Of The Mind.” The band can certainly play, and it’s such a shame that there’s an element that ruins the listening experience so much. Well, it doesn’t help that the songwriting isn’t of the best quality and the band lacks originality. But it’s the vocals that make you want to just turn off the whole album. Therefore, “Maze Of The Mind” ends up low on the ranking scale, and one can only hope for a change of vocalist.
