Condition Critical is a thrash metal band from New Jersey, USA. The band has been active since 2010 and has previously released two albums. On their third effort, Degeneration Chamber, they deliver more of the classic thrash sound we know from the ’90s and onward. At times it leans toward groove metal, at other times toward crossover – a mix that Condition Critical handles well. The band plays tightly, with no shortage of punch or killer riffs. That should come as no surprise, given the experienced members coming from bands like Lich King, Solstice, and Malevolent Creation.
If I’m being critical, though, it does become a bit monotonous in the long run. This is not a varied record, and I don’t think the band intended it to be. I enjoy the album most in the beginning; by the end, I find myself a little tired of the same pace – even if the songs are fairly short and the record clocks in at just over half an hour. Still, it’s a solid album, and as mentioned, there are plenty of great riffs to sink your teeth into. On top of that, credit must be given for the cool cover art, painted by Andrei Bouzikov.
