Dutch Dead Head is probably not the most well-known thrash metal band – at least not in Norway – where I am from. But the band has actually been going strong for 35 years now, and “Shadow Soul” is the band’s eighth album. In fact, three out of the four members who started the band are still with them. That’s quite impressive for a band that has been around for so long. Despite their long history, they have never actually played in Norway. Oddly enough – because Dead Head offers quality thrash of the brutal kind. Perhaps a bit too anonymously since there are so incredibly many similar thrash bands. So “Shadow Soul” requires some listens to fully grasp. But the album grows with each listen, revealing new good riffs. In addition, Dead Head deserves praise for cool cover art and good production on “Shadow Soul.” The album is also short and concise with eight songs in just under half an hour. That’s something to appreciate as many albums of this type tend to be overly long. Thrash metal should be quick and not drag on forever. So Dead Head has understood that.
