But they soon discover that something far more mysterious is going on — the kind of thing few dare to speak about for fear of being labelled insane.
With a title like this, you’d be forgiven for thinking this is yet another adaptation of Mary Shelley’s famous novel. But far from it — there are only small similarities to the classic story, mainly the concept of a man who can create life from the dead by assembling them from different body parts.
This is a film with potential, but the lack of standout moments and a proper climax makes it painfully dull. There’s not much to criticise when it comes to the direction or acting, which makes it clear that it’s the story itself that’s to blame for the constant yawns. As the film progresses, I found myself just slogging through it.
For a made-for-TV movie, it’s actually quite impressive in terms of technical quality — but that doesn’t help much when the result works better as a sleep aid. The original idea was for this to become a TV series, but things fell apart along the way. And even though some big names are still attached — including Martin Scorsese himself — the final product ends up feeling flat and underwhelming.
