King Abyss released two EPs in 2017 and 2018, and now the band has finally completed their debut album “Snake Oil”. This British quintet delivers hard-hitting groove metal, likely drawing inspiration from 80s thrash metal as well as its 90s successors like Pantera, The Haunted, and At The Gates. “Snake Oil” sounds good and boasts a solid production. Unfortunately, it lacks the truly powerful riffs and thus, the truly standout tracks. Nonetheless, for the most part, this is a decent album with a lot of energy. Maybe next time they will do even better. Because they sure have potential.
