Paralysis hail from New Jersey, US, and have previously released two albums and four EPs. The band play crossover thrash metal, comparable to Municipal Waste, Power Trip and Enforced. It’s all about the riffs here, and Paralysis definitely know their way around them—just check the opening riff on “Fragile Flesh” or the Slayer-esque riff on “Leukotomy” — gloriously tough.
But it isn’t only about riffs: drummer Steven Rago hits hard and plays solidly. Getting a good groove in thrash is crucial—it’s not just about tearing along at high speed with no aim or purpose—and Rago does this well, showing plenty of dynamism in his playing. On top of that, Jon Plemenik’s vocals are lively and hit hard. So the essentials are in place. The band have also unveiled a new logo since the last album, and the cover art is far better than the amateurish painting on “Mob Justice”, not to mention the dreadful black-and-white photo on the debut “Life Sentence”. In all respects, things are moving in the right direction for Paralysis. Next time should be a perfect ten.
Released August 8th, 2025 indepentently.
