Rezet is a German thrash metal band that has released five albums previously. The band’s sixth album is self-titled and features fairly melodic metal. But my goodness, it sounds so generic and typical. It’s as if they took all the mediocre elements from ’90s thrash bands like Annihilator, Exodus, Paradox, and so on, mixed them together, and made it extremely boring. Ricky Wagner’s vocals are also well below par. It just sounds like you’ve heard a thousand other thrash bands do the same thing before, only better. The only tough elements I find here are a few cool riffs, but even they are completely devoid of originality. On the track “True As Lies,” Steve “Lips” Kudlow from Anvil plays guitar. This doesn’t make “Rezet” any better, as Anvil is one of the absolute worst metal bands from the ’80s among the more well-known ones. But yes, Steve “Lips” Kudlow can play guitar, and in that sense, he does a good enough job on “True As Lies.” However, it really doesn’t help much. “Rezet” is an album that’s quickly going to be forgotten by me. There’s simply no music here worth remembering.
Released August 30th, 2024 on Violent Creek Records.
