Italian band Septem returns with their third album. They play melodic heavy metal with occasional heavier sections featuring raspier vocals. The result is an odd mix of bland, uninspired heavy metal, where the vocalist sings well below par, and harder sections that lean mildly toward thrash metal.
Instrumentally, the performance is decent but lacks excitement, with forgettable songwriting. However, the biggest reason Pseudonica is a difficult listen is the weak vocals. Daniele Armanini can sing, but when he shifts to higher registers, it completely falls apart—something he does far too often. On top of that, his voice is too thin for this style of music.
Septem is a band I’d rather avoid in the future.
