It’s perhaps no surprise that there are quite a few bands named Turbo already. However, it’s a bit surprising that a new band would choose the name Turbo, considering there’s a well-established band from Poland with the same name that started in 1980 and has released a total of fifteen albums. I understand that not everyone is deeply knowledgeable about metal, but don’t people do at least a little research before choosing a name? Anyway, this is the Canadian Turbo, and they previously released “Fast As Fvck” in 2020. The band falls into the parody category of heavy metal, where everything is greatly exaggerated and clichés come one after another. The band also mixes glam metal with a bit of Motörhead. In fact, vocalist Evan Frizzle sometimes sounds a bit like Eddie Guz from The Carburetors. Unfortunately, though, Turbo isn’t all that impressive. I don’t find their songs or humor particularly good. It’s a bit of a shame, as the band doesn’t play all that badly. But playing good is not good enough–you also need good songs. Sadly Turbo don’t have that.
Released July 12th, 2024 independently.
