White Mantis are a thrash metal band from Germany who have previously released one album and an EP. Their musical style falls into the blackened thrash category – fast-paced and aggressive riffing all the way. While White Mantis certainly have their charm, I find myself struggling with what I hear.
Already in the opening track “Nekrotornado,” the chorus feels almost like parody. It’s so clichéd and over the top that it’s hard to take the music seriously. The vocals don’t help either, sounding muddled throughout – especially in the parts with clean singing, which come across as awkward. At the core, this is a band I want to like. I enjoy their aesthetic, the cover art is cool, and they play an organic style of thrash metal that I usually appreciate. But “Arrows At The Sun” just isn’t executed well enough to win me over. Maybe on the next album.
Released August 22nd, 2025 on High Roller Records.
