Wreck-Defy are a thrash metal band from Canada, here releasing their sixth album in the ten years the band have existed. We’re talking melodic thrash metal as we know it from North America, but there’s also plenty of power metal and heavy metal in the mix. Over the years, the band have had many members come and go, and on “Dissecting the Leech” they feature, among others, ex-Testament bassist Greg Christian. In addition, the record has a whole stack of guest artists, made up of members and former members from bands such as Megadeth, Agent Steel, Flotsam and Jetsam, Testament, and Nevermore. Not the most famous names from those bands – we’re talking Chris Poland, not Dave Mustaine, so to speak – but still a solid guest list.
Personally, I’m not a big fan of guest artists, as it often feels a bit pointless. In this case, though, it actually adds something, since there’s a lot of vocals on the album – alongside Greg Wagner, three guest vocalists also appear. There’s a lot of falsetto and vibrato singing, with one trying to outdo the other, and it can get a bit excessive. Still, there’s plenty of talent behind this album, and several strong instrumental passages as well. So I would say that this is an album worth checking out if you are into classic thrash metal. But don’t expect to find something refresh that you have not heard before.
Release March 6th, 2026 on Massacre Records.
