The first trailer for the Norwegian thriller Før mørket, or Before the Dark in English, is now out. The premiere is set for February 28 2025.
The main character, “Linn,” portrayed by Kristine Kujath Thorp, leads a team of aid workers at an improvised field hospital in Bangui, Central African Republic, on Christmas Eve 2013. Outside, civil war rages between Christian and Muslim militias. A desperate Muslim man runs into the clinic, pursued and in mortal danger, while anger grows among the crowd gathering outside the hospital. The Christian militia demands his surrender.
“Without weapons or other means of defense, she must make impossible choices, act quickly, and break every rule. Should she hand over a man to certain death, or risk everyone’s lives?” reads the film’s synopsis.
Eirik Svensson directs Before the Dark and says the powerful story has captivated him from the start. “It’s certainly a different film in Norwegian cinema with its setting and themes. The story is complex, but war is also about individuals,” Svensson states.
The premiere in Norway is set for February 28, 2025. Now, the trailer gives us a first taste of what to expect.
