A wave of suspicious Facebook advertisements has emerged, promoting a so-called “Jaws 50th Anniversary Limited Edition Whiskey Bottle” shaped like a shark and branded with the Jack Daniel’s name. The ads, which feature convincing images of the bottle, have attracted significant attention, with comment sections full of eager buyers.
However, these advertisements are not what they seem. The links provided in the ads often lead to shady websites, raising serious concerns about scams. Despite their polished appearance, the bottle does not exist.
When contacted, Jack Daniel’s confirmed that the product is a fake. In an email response, a representative wrote:
“Thanks for writing, but the bottle you saw isn’t something we offer. It was likely an AI-generated image. If you drop by our website and click on ‘Our Products,’ you can see the commemorative bottles and whiskeys we do offer: www.jackdaniels.com.
If you see the image on social media again, please report it. If you send us a link, we’ll be glad to forward it to our Licensing Team to have the ad or page removed.”
The company encourages consumers to stay vigilant and to report any suspicious advertisements they encounter. Meanwhile, potential buyers are advised to verify offers directly through official channels before making any purchases.
As AI technology makes it easier to create lifelike counterfeit products, experts warn that scams like this are likely to become even more common.
One site, Roegode.com, appears to be attracting the most attention, with more than 16,000 likes and over 5,000 comments on its Facebook advertisements. However, a check of the site’s legitimacy raises further red flags. According to Scam-Detector.com:
