Legendary metal vocalist King Diamond has been diagnosed with a streptococcal throat infection and has been forced to cancel several upcoming concerts.
The first show affected was Arena Open Air in Vienna, Austria, which was cancelled on Sunday. King Diamond has also cancelled Arenele Romane Open Air in Bucharest, Romania, and Arena Sofia in Sofia, Bulgaria.
He is now hoping to recover in time for his scheduled appearance at Rockwave Festival in Athens, Greece, on Thursday, July 10. However, he admits that it’s a tight deadline, as recovery from strep throat typically takes 14 days, and he is attempting to shorten that to just six.
In a message posted to his official Facebook page, King Diamond wrote:
“Hello everyone, King Diamond here. As you may know by now, I was diagnosed with Strep Throat this past Saturday, and told to rest a certain amount of days. As I have had experience with Strep Throat before, I believe that with the medicine prescribed by the doctor and my own knowledge, I can be back singing before the estimated day. By cutting my recuperation from suggested 14 days to 6, which I feel might work in this case, we could be back performing this Thursday, July 10 in Athens, Greece.
Send me a Devil’s prayer or two and I shall do my utmost for this to happen.
Stay Heavy,”
Should his condition not improve in time, both the Athens show and the following concert in Istanbul, Turkey may also be cancelled.
