The respected Norwegian black metal record label Terratur Possessions has warned European bookers and promoters against booking Thornspawn, following previous bad experiences with the band’s main man, Blackthorn.
In a post on 21 November, Thornspawn sought partners for a European run to celebrate the band’s 30th anniversary: “2026 shall be Thornspawn’s 30th Hellishversary! And I am looking for promoters to book Thornspawn in select shows within Europa. Contact me if you are an interested promoter, or know of one in your local area who would like to assemble a show for THORNSPAWN.”
On 17 December, Terratur Possessions posted a warning on social media: “European bookers and promoters: Don’t let this little thief into our countries. He might look like a very tiny, harmless man, but he will steal whatever he can get his little hands on. Fuck him, and fuck his entire band.”
In the comments, Terratur Possessions elaborated on what allegedly happened: “He befriended me via email. I was close with Black Witchery back then and knew they were friends, so I bought into it. He said he was going to open a shop where he lived. Being in contact for months and he sending me his crappy titles and tiny gifts, I agreed to send a big box full of records to him as he was just starting up. I did this to help him start up and get payment later. After I shipped the box he stopped replying…. Then I talked with people throughout the scene who all confirmed the same behaviour over the years. Years later I tracked him down on Facebook. Caught him off guard, he said he would pay me and was sorry, then blocked me. Total fraud, liar and the very definition of a thief.”
Blackthorn, whose real name is Alexander Macias, runs the band together with his wife Hella, also known as Laura Elisa Corrales. The couple also operate the label Blackdeath Coven Records, which has not exactly endeared itself to many people.
In the comments, several others share negative experiences involving Blackthorn. Among the most notable is an account from guitarist Noctis Interfector, who played in two of Blackthorn’s bands between 2019 and 2021. The other band was Maledictvs.
He wrote: “I was the lead guitarist for Thornspawn and Maledictvs from 2019-2021. I played a fest with Maledictvs/Thornspawn where we headlined, Satan’s Unholy Abomination Fest 2019. The other guitarists and I were told that our stay would be covered, however, the gig would be unpaid because the band allegedly was not getting paid. I found out later that this was a lie. Despite what was initially offered, our stay was not covered and I ended up getting a room and took in the other guitarists as well. Additionally, we had to learn the songs by ear because they couldn’t provide tabs. When we showed up for rehearsal, they were playing the songs completely different from what you hear on the albums they released. We had to re-learn the whole set list the day of the show because Laura doesn’t even know how to play the songs correctly. Listen to the albums and then listen to the way the songs are played live, you’ll hear it. Not to mention I had to tune her god damn bass for her… During the recording sessions for the Maledictvs/Espectrum split that never came to be, Laura sent me some drafts for some music to work on. Long story short, she wanted me to record songs for a release with no set tempo and no drum tracks. She doesn’t even know how to use a metronome, and stated that she does not use one. Seeing how she couldn’t even provide a set tempo for the songs and kept changing it… this was quite obvious… After the tedious task of recording draft after draft and sending them over and over, she messages me one night saying, ‘You can’t sleep, I need this song now!’ before jumping on a video call. Mind you, it was after 11:00 PM when we ended the call, on a work night. Ultimately, they were not willing to amicably work together to have this completed in a timely manner, which led us going our separate ways, though I’ve been told by others that he tells a completely different story. Long story short, they lie, they take credit for music they didn’t even write, they fuck their musicians over, bootleg merch and profit off of the work of others, and will only be cordial when they want something from you. They also attempted to have ex-band members removed from metal archives because they don’t want people using their name as a ‘stepping stone’ to ‘level up their projects and fame,’ yet they are the ones taking advantage and fucking people over. Fake ass posers who can’t even play their instruments or play songs consistent to something they supposedly wrote. As a drummer, Alex should know that drums should always be tracked before guitars when recording an album. Whether he was on the recording or not, you’d think he’d advise his wife on how to do something the correct way.”
Blackthorn has taken note of the accusations, but in response he has only posted a quote on his Facebook page: “Whether they speak well or ill of me, the important thing is that they speak of me, although I confess that I like it when they speak ill of me because that means things are going very well for me.” Nobody talks about mediocre people, and when they do, they only say wonderful things.” — S.D.
So far, Thornspawn have announced one concert for 2026: at Temple Athens, Greece, on 5 June, where they will play alongside Asagraum. The show is promoted by D.G.U Productions. Whether more dates will follow after Terratur Possessions’ warning remains to be seen.
