Lise Myhre, creator of the popular comic “Nemi,” is set to make her debut as a film director with an animated adventure about a unique tooth fairy. The film, titled Tannfeen, or The Tooth Fairy in English, is being produced in collaboration with Qvisten Animation. Myhre, 48, will co-direct alongside acclaimed filmmaker Rasmus A. Sivertsen, with a screenplay she wrote herself. The Norwegian Film Institute (NFI) describes the project as “a tribute to anyone who’s felt different or struggled to fit in.”
The Tooth Fairy received NOK 13.5 million in production funding from NFI, contributing to its total budget of over NOK 70 million. This film is among four projects that received a combined NOK 52.7 million in funding in NFI’s latest approval round.
Maipo received the largest grant of NOK 17.5 million for Vampire, directed by Arild Frølich, based on Steffen Kverneland’s novel. Another Maipo project, The Class Trip, directed by Fanny Ovesen, was awarded NOK 14.5 million. The film follows a middle school class on a trip to Poland to learn about the Holocaust, while the teens see it as an opportunity for much more.
The Badgers, produced by 73 Eyes Film Production and directed by Paul Magnus Lundø, received NOK 7.19 million. This feel-good film explores childhood, identity, integrity, and the dream of becoming a scout.
“This round features three strong film projects for children and young people. We’re pleased to see exciting and original theatrical releases aimed at this audience,” said Terez Hollo-Klausen, NFI’s Director of Artistic Assessment, Development, and Audience.
