Deathstorm are a thrash metal band from Austria that started out back in 2007 under the name Damage. In 2010, the band changed their name to Deathstorm and have previously released two EPs and four albums. «Cascophonies» is therefore the band’s fifth album, and they serve up a familiar thrash formula consisting of downstroke riffs and harsh vocals. In fact, the band’s style is such a textbook example of thrash metal that it is difficult to say anything particularly interesting about what I am listening to here. It simply sounds like run-of-the-mill stuff. On top of that, it sounds a little rough around the edges, so I am not especially impressed either.
Still, the band radiate energy and have a certain charm about them, so this is by no means all bad. There are just too many similar albums being released these days. However, the band did split-up shortly after the release of «Cascophonies». Hopefully they will go on the create something more unique, because the guys knows how to play.
Released May 22nd, 2026 on Dying Victims Productions.
