Gomorra is a Swiss power metal band that previously released the album “Divine Judgement” in 2020. Here we’re talking about the type of power metal that often transitions into modern heavy metal. Not entirely unlike Iced Earth, actually. Previously, the band operated under the rather unfortunate name Gonoreas, and before that, under the very unfortunate name The Gonorrheas. So despite Gomorra being a fairly new band, three of the members have been playing together for twelve years now and have released a number of albums together. Skillful guitarist Damir Eskić has actually been involved since the beginning in 1994 when the band operated under the name associated with the STD. However, it would take many years before they realized that it’s not so easy to be taken seriously with such a name. Damir Eskić is also a member of the German band Destruction. I would have probably stuck with the German thrashers, as Gomorra comes off as very generic power metal. However, it’s easy to appreciate that the band plays well, and especially Damir Eskić is phenomenal on the guitar. Additionally, vocalist Jonas Ambühl sings incredibly well. But the songs themselves are not much to write home about.
