In the promotional material for “Tyrant’s Return,” it states that The Ironfist plays NWOBHM. Well, this “British heavy metal” band hails from Singapore and plays black thrash. In this case, the abbreviation stands for “Necro Wave Of Blackened Heavy Metal” … so we’re dealing with some humorists here. These guys obviously love wordplay, and their first studio album came out in 2008, titled “Weapon of Mass Sexxxtruction,” while their previous album was called “Singahell,” replacing “pore” with “hell.” The discography of The Ironfist is actually more comical than their wordplay.
Before their debut album in 2008, the band had already released two live albums, one in 2002 and one in 2005. They even came up with a compilation album in 2006. Talk about starting at the wrong end. But how is the music of The Ironfist? Unfortunately, it’s as bad as their wordplay. First and foremost, it’s the melodic clean vocals that I struggle with. They simply don’t sound good. They should have stuck to the growls since that works much better. However, it’s clear that they want a good dose of heavy metal in the mix, even though this doesn’t work out too well.
