Diseim from Latvia plays old-school death metal. This means it’s heavy and brutal with deep growling vocals. Pretty tough stuff, and I especially like the heavy bass that reminds me of the bass sound on early Cannibal Corpse albums. The band, however, is more sluggish and incorporates many doom riffs before transitioning into faster sections, creating a lot of nice dynamics. In this sense, a band like Autopsy is a closer reference. Diseim is a relatively new band, and this is their debut, but several members have a long history in the Latvian metal scene. I can mention bands like Skyforger and Goreslut. The band loses some points for not being particularly original, but then again, there aren’t that many death metal bands these days that are truly unique, so it’s okay. However, over time, this can also feel a bit repetitive, and interest wanes as the album progresses. Nevertheless, for the most part, this is good death metal that I can definitely enjoy.
