Demiser comes from the USA and released their debut album, “Through the Gate Eternal,” in 2021. Now, the band is ready with their follow-up, “Slave to the Scythe.” The band’s style is firmly rooted in thrash metal but incorporates a lot of rock ‘n’ roll and features vocals that lean more toward black metal. The band members have plenty of experience from many other bands, though I don’t recognize any of them. However, two of the members also play in the black metal band Black Eucharist, which released its debut album last year. Overall, “Slave to the Scythe” sounds pretty good. There are quite a few cool riffs on the album, and the drummer knows his stuff. However, it doesn’t sound particularly original, and you get the feeling that much of what Demiser has to offer has been heard many times before. Still, it’s well executed, and it sounds solid. I imagine this would be a great live band, and if I get the chance to see them someday, I’ll take it.
