Blackevil is a German blackened thrash metal band that has been active since 2013. They previously released The Ceremonial Fire in 2017 and Forever Baptised in Eternal Fire in 2020. Now, they’re back with their challenging third album, humorously titled Praise The Communion Fire For The Unhallowed Sacrament. Quite the mouthful! Over the years, the band has cycled through several drummers, and this time they’ve added their fourth, Bloodhammer. With experience in bands like Marduk, Belphegor, and Panzerchrist, it’s clear he knows his way around a drum kit.
In fact, Praise The Communion Fire For The Unhallowed Sacrament sounds excellent. While Blackevil delivers aggressive old-school thrash metal, they skillfully weave enough melody into their riffs and guitar work to keep things interesting. The biggest surprise on the album is the track Beneath This Pentagram, a slower song where vocalist Abyss experiments with clean vocals. Unexpected, but it works, and it’s refreshing to see them step out of their comfort zone.
Musically, Blackevil is reminiscent of bands like Exciter, Hellripper, Destruction, and Deströyer 666. If you’re a fan of any of these, Blackevil is definitely worth checking out.
Released October 25th, 2024 on Dying Victims Productions.
