From Colombia, we have the speed metal band Bloody Nightmare, which is now releasing the band’s second album. This is typical retro metal and can be reminiscent of the Swedish scene, which has plenty of such bands in recent times. So, this scene of retro speed-heavy bands isn’t all that exciting, to be honest. They simply never manage to make it sound as good or as interesting as the bands they draw inspiration from in the 80s. Not that it necessarily matters, as some of what they bring is fun enough, and they are probably having a good time. However, in the case of Bloody Nightmare, there are two significant problems with the album that make it difficult for me to listen to. The first is the weak and feeble production. It becomes so toothless with such a thin sound. The second major problem is the vocals. It simply doesn’t sound good from the vocalist. On the positive side, there is a lot of excellent guitar work on “Pillars Of Chaos.” Cool guitar solos and a lot of twin-guitar action that is clearly inspired by bands like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. It’s just a shame that the production and vocals don’t measure up.
