Norwegian websites are now officially the safest to visit online, according to a new global report by the DNS Research Federation. The country’s top-level domain, .no, ranks first in an international comparison of internet domain safety.
The main reason .no scores so highly is because Norid has maintained strong domain name management and solid registration procedures over time. While Norid manages the .no domain, Nkom ensures compliance with Norwegian telecom regulations.
Global Safety Rankings
Norway leads the DNS Research Federation’s latest safety rankings, followed by Denmark and Hungary. The top 10 safest country-code domains are:
- Norway (.no)
- Denmark (.dk)
- Hungary (.hu)
- Austria (.au)
- Switzerland (.ch)
- South Korea (.kr)
- Greece (.gr)
- Belgium (.be)
- Canada (.ca)
- Vietnam (.vn)
Sweden ranks 12th, while the United States (.us) sits at 35th place. Russia (.ru) and China (.cn) rank 43rd and 48th, respectively.
Be Cautious of Suspicious Domains
According to Nkom, phishing scams and fraudulent messages often contain links to suspicious websites. These sites may look legitimate but are designed to steal sensitive information.
It’s not always easy to tell which links are safe, but as a general rule, if a site doesn’t end in .no, be cautious.
Domains ending in .cc, .vip, and .top were highlighted as particularly risky, consistently appearing at the bottom of safety rankings.
