Norwegian actor Rune Temte joins Bloodaxe, a new Viking series coming to Prime Video. In Bloodaxe, Rune Temte plays King Gorm of Denmark, a key figure in the historical drama from Vikings creator Michael Hirst. The series explores the brutal and complex world of Viking politics through the story of Eirik Bloodaxe.
Temte, known for roles in The Last Kingdom and Captain Marvel, will play Gorm the Old, a calculating and powerful monarch described as “sharp and cunning,” yet lacking the traditional fiery Viking temper. His strategic and at times brutal leadership made him one of the most influential rulers in Scandinavian history.
“Now that it’s no longer a secret, I’m honoured and thrilled to share this incredible news,” Temte wrote on Instagram. “It’s a privilege to join such a talented team on this amazing project.”
Bloodaxe tells the story of Eirik Bloodaxe, a legendary Viking king and warrior, and will feature political intrigue, war, and betrayal as rival Scandinavian kings and a powerful English ruler battle for supremacy.
The cast also includes Sisse Marie as Thyra, Gorm’s wife, and Jesper Christensen as Harald Fairhair. The series is produced by MGM Television, the same company behind Vikings (2013–2020) and Vikings: Valhalla on Netflix.
Creator Michael Hirst promises a fresh look at Viking history: “We aim to introduce audiences to new, extraordinary characters and true stories that changed the course of history.”
Bloodaxe is expected to premiere on Prime Video in the near future. Stay tuned for updates on release dates, trailers, and more from this epic Viking saga as Rune Temte Joins Bloodaxe.
