Nuctemeron are a German speed black metal band now releasing their debut album, “Demonic Sceptre”. Despite this being a debut, the band have been active since 2014 and have put out several EPs, splits, compilations, and live albums. In other words, they’ve been putting in the work – even if it’s a bit odd to release a compilation and a live record before the actual debut album.
Nuctemeron’s style is devil-may-care black metal in the same vein as Nifelheim, Sarcófago, and Tormentor. The lyrics are packed with perversities – just look at song titles like “Rape From The Grave” and “Fuck Off!!! (In The Name Of Evil)”. It’s also amusing that the band have a female bassist wearing a studded bra. Naturally, she calls herself Volcanic Slut. That’s how it should be. Nuctemeron are basically the kind of band that would give you a full house if you had a bingo card of metal clichés in front of you. But it works. The sound is nicely necro, the songs are fast and evil, it’s wide-legged and brash, and the band wear enough studs to make Halford jealous. And I like what I’m hearing. There’s a rawness and energy to it that really hits the spot. The album closes with a cover of Venom’s “Angeldust”, and it sounds at least as good as the original.
Release on March 13th, 2026 on I Hate Records.
