Ghetto Ghouls is a crossover thrash metal band from Trondheim. Vigilante Crusaders marks their debut album, though the band has previously released five EPs. Like many crossover bands, Ghetto Ghouls incorporates humor and a comic book aesthetic, but here, everything is executed with a keen eye for detail. The band has stepped up significantly from their earlier releases, and Vigilante Crusaders comes across as a well-rounded package.
The album has a thematic red thread, with all tracks inspired by vigilante films from the 1980s, such as The Exterminator, Death Wish, Vendetta, Savage Streets, Naked Vengeance, Vigilante, Blastfighter, and Ms.45. The band clearly has excellent taste in movies!
Musically, Ghetto Ghouls deliver the goods. While their sound may not be particularly groundbreaking, it’s reminiscent of bands like Municipal Waste, Havok, and Toxic Holocaust. Speaking of Toxic Holocaust—Joel Grind from the band handled the mastering for Vigilante Crusaders. If you’re a fan of crossover thrash metal, Ghetto Ghouls is undoubtedly a refreshing addition to the genre.
