Rumors and reports about a sequel to Constantine (2005) have been circulating for some time, with claims that it was very close to becoming a reality. Now, it seems that’s finally the case—especially according to John Constantine himself, Keanu Reeves, who recently discussed the film in an interview with Inverse.
When asked about the progress behind the scenes, Reeves revealed that a pitch for the film was recently presented to DC Studios, which approved the idea, meaning that work on a script is now underway.
Reeves stated, “We’ve been trying to make this movie for over a decade, and we recently put together a story and pitched it to DC Studios, and they said, ‘OK.’ So we’re going to try to write a script.”
So far, there’s no information about the plot or what Constantine will be up against this time, but Reeves hinted that the character will be “tortured even more.”
It’s also unclear how the film will fit into DC’s broader plans. It could end up being an Elseworlds story (like The Batman), meaning that Reeves’ version of Constantine would exist outside the new DC Universe.
