A young couple parks their car, only to be suddenly attacked from the sky. The creatures smash the car window and tear the couple to pieces. Could it be bats?
Turns out, yes—but not just any bats. These have been genetically altered to be more intelligent, larger, stronger, and capable of eating just about anything. A mad scientist created them, and now they’ve escaped the lab. As expected, we’re dealing with the classic cliché: a deranged scientist unleashes a super-creature that threatens humanity. Enter Sheila, a zoologist and bat expert, brought in to help authorities stop the winged menace.
The story is rather dull and offers few surprises—this is a highly predictable film. Visually, it’s nothing to brag about either. The camera work is especially irritating during the attack scenes, with frantic close-ups that make it nearly impossible to see what’s happening. The bats themselves are clunky puppets, reminiscent of 1980s creature features like Critters or Gremlins—but without the charm.
As the film progresses, it shifts into full action mode with explosions and shootouts. Still, only the very easily frightened will find this scary, and anyone else is more likely to be bored or nod off. With a weak plot, poor direction, and uninspired visuals, there’s really not much to recommend here.
