This is the second full-length album from the American band Allegaeon. At its core, there’s quite brutal traditional death metal, while layered on top are more melodic guitar leads and solos. I can certainly appreciate much of what I’m hearing, but the issue with “Formshifter” is that it has a rather short lifespan. Nothing really sticks, and after four or five listens, I start to get tired of it. In comparison, their previous album “Fragments of Form and Function” is much stronger and has a longer shelf life. It’s quite unfortunate, given that there’s so much potential to be heard here.
Released by Metal Blade.
